20th Anniversary Gig tonight!
So in just under an hour from now the mighty Carter USM will take the stage for the first time in 10 years (discounting the 4 For Wiz gig earlier this year) in Glasgow. Money and geography have conspired against me and I cannot attend. However, I am spending the day listening to various live Carter tracks.

Here's a few songs they performed live on 6 Music Radio in the UK this Monday.
The Only Living Boy In New Cross

Also, the new double CD compilation - You Fat Bastard - is fantastic. All the tracks have been digitally remastered at Abbey Road Studios and it sounds amazing. Pick it up.

The DVD will be a solo acoustic performance and will include lots of Jim Bob, JSSW songs with a few Carter classics thrown in for good measure. The show will be professionally filmed and will come with some nice little extras. This will be a proper release with it available in the shops and all that jazz."

Another Tribute Update
Hey everybody.

We arrived at a final mix last night for The Music That Nobody Likes. The songs have been EQ'd and compressed and other music tech geek terms that I don't really know what they mean. It sounds fantastic and the 20 songs provide a very diverse spectrum of Carter USM interpretations. We've got rock, trance, punk, techno, lounge and industrial bands all coming together to pay tribute to Mrs Bob and Bat.

I'm discussing the artwork with John (of Dan the 50lb Man) right now. I've got a pretty good idea of what I want so hopefully we'll get it all assembled by the end of next week and then send it off to be pressed, which means we start shipping by February.

I'm going to start taking pre-orders via the webpage very soon. The CD will only cost $10 (yes, that includes shipping worldwide) and I accept Paypal, US checks and International money orders. If you think you'll need many copies (10 or more) email me and I'll cut you a deal.

By this time next month, you could be $10 poorer and 20 songs richer!

Edit: Here's the final track listing:

1 Yer Maw - Everytime A Churchbell Rings
2 Mayhem Lettuce - The Taking Of Peckham 123
3 The Fantastic Monkeyboy - Good Grief, Charlie Brown
4 The Spider Translator - A Perfect Day To Drop The Bomb
5 dandelionburdock - G.I. Blues
6 The Tandys - R.S.P.C.E.
7 Bo8b - A Prince In A Pauper's Grave
8 Days of Legbraces - William's Smart Circus
9 Pirate Gennie - Is Wrestling Fixed?
10 Teflon Mohair - Do Re Me So Far So Good
11 DJ Zhivago - While You Were Out
12 Souper Terrorpin - The Impossible Blues
13 Jimmy Jimmy Coco Pop - Turn On, Tune In, Switch Off
14 Pysco Slut - The Music That Nobody Likes
15 664 NOTB - Suicide Isn't Painless
16 Here Comes Trouble - Evil
17 Lift Off - God, St Peter & the Guardian Angel
18 SnowBird - Tomorrow When You Die
19 Moving In Stereo - Johnny Cash
20 Dan the 50lb Man - After (I Blame) The (Government) Watershed

Carter Tribute Update
With all 20 songs submitted and ready to go, the mastering process has begun. mumchancegaloot and I spent the evening listening to the songs, making notes about what needs to be done to each song. Some are too loud, some are too quiet. Some need to be tweaked a bit to brighten the sound. Etc. That process shouldn't take long.

The next step will be getting the final artwork done and then we send it off to be pressed. Yay! It should be ready by the end of this month.

So there are 15 submitted songs now for the Carter USM Tribute CD! I got 2 of them today. 30 second snippets of each song are online. check it out!

This is far exceding my expectations. I'm really going to try to get it done by X-Mas but it might end up being January instead, depending on how quickly the artwork comes together and how long the pressing process takes.

Jim Bob's new album gets an early release!
That's right, kids! The 5th solo album from the man hisself will be in stores November 22nd but YOU can get it early. Jim has just announced that he plans to make Angelstrike! available via Fruitbat's website sometime this week.

Believe me when I say that I'll be checking that site every 5 minutes or so and will post a follow-up announcement here the moment it becomes available.

The Music That Nobody Likes
The mail has just arrived and in it was the newest contribution to the Carter USM Tribute album - Impossible Blues by Souper Terrorpin. It's a lazy trip-hoppy affair with samples from GI Blues and Impossible Dream. It's very unlike any other submissions we've got so far.

I've also been in contact with Spider Translator and their version of A Perfect Day To Drop The Bomb is nearly ready. I heard a demo and it's very fun and true to the original structure but has a goth edge to it.

Also, Bransby has confirmed that he will be sending me a rendition of Born on the 5th of November to me very soon AND fresh from Australia, The Tandy's have sent in a very strange version of R.S.P.C.E. You can listen to a snippet of it at the Tribute's webpage... if you dare!

Carter USM Tribute Update
The very excellent Bernard have confirmed today that they are working on both Re-Educating Rita and Her Song. I don't know if I'll put both on this Tribute or if I'll save one for Volume 2 next year. You can hear a sneak preview of Bernard's new album here.

The Spider Translator's version of A Perfect Day To Drop The Bomb is nearly complete. Vocals still need to be added but I'm told that the music is finished.

I talked to Fruitbat last week and he assures me that Richie (of Abdoujaparov) will have his track finished soon and that it will be sent along with the submission from Ben Lambert's (ex-Carter, JSSW) new project.

As for my band, we hammered out the drum and bass tracks this week and are ready to start adding guitars and organs.

Oi, Ginger? Any updates from the world of Jo and Hanna? The deadline approacheth.

On the twenty-second day of November, the day that they shot Kennedy, Jim Bob will release his fifth post-USM album - Angelstrike!. Here's the tracklisting:

5. 55 CARDS

Fruitbat plays guitar on Angelstrike! and sings with Jim Bob, duet style, on My Face Your Arse. If it's even half as good as Goodnight Jim Bob I'll be in heaven this November.

Welcome to Fat Bastards - the first (as far as I know) LJ Community for Carter USM fans. I'll have something halfway substantial to say very soon. Meanwhile, are you aware of the Carter USM Tribute CD? It rocks. More on that later. Buy Jim Bob's book.
